What is www.oxidecloud.co.za?
OXIDE is the brand name of the cloud-native platform as a service offering hosted and managed by Data Sciences Corporation powered by Jelastic PaaS Software.
What is www.cloudlet.cloud?
When you log into the platform you will be redirected to the cloudlet.cloud address. This is the name of our OXIDE Cloud Platform. The concept of cloudlets are strongly intertwined in the platform. In the strict sense of the word Wikipedia has the following to say about what a cloudlet is:
A cloudlet is a mobility-enhanced small-scale cloud datacenter that is located at the edge of the Internet. The main purpose of the cloudlet is supporting resource-intensive and interactive mobile applications by providing powerful computing resources to mobile devices with lower latency. It is a new architectural element that extends today’s cloud computing infrastructure. A cloudlet can be viewed as a data center in a box whose goal is to bring the cloud closer. – taken from Wikipedia
In our OXIDE world, a Cloudlet is the smallest unit of compute power you can consume on the platform and 1 Cloudlet represents 128MiB or Memory & 400Mhz of CPU power.
So we think it’s kind of cool that you have your own Cloud, be it hosted on a Public OXIDE Region in our data centre locations, or a Private OXIDE Region in your own datacenter.
Your piece of that region is made up of tens or hundreds of cloudlets all working together to bring your applications and imagination to life.
